Getting started

  1. Download Voicera and open the disk image. Drag Voicera into Applications and open it from there. It needs macOS 15 or later.
  2. Choose Continue with Apple or Continue with Google. Sign in happens on voicera.app in your browser, which then hands you back to the app.
  3. Allow Microphone, Accessibility and Input Monitoring. macOS may ask you to quit and reopen Voicera after Input Monitoring.
  4. Pick the languages you speak, try each shortcut, and practise once in the test box. Then Voicera lives in the menu bar.
  5. That’s it: you’re on Free, with 1,000words a week and every feature. Upgrade in Settings, Plan & billing whenever you need more.

Shortcuts

Every shortcut is a toggle: press once to start, press any of them again to finish. Esc cancels. You can record other keys in Settings, Shortcuts.

Dictate

fn

Press, talk, press again. Clean text appears at your cursor.

Edit

fn+shift

With text selected, opens Quick Actions. Pick one, then Insert or Copy.

Ask

fn+space

Ask out loud, about your selection or anything else. Fn sends it.

Troubleshooting

Pressing Fn opens the emoji picker or switches the input source

While Voicera runs it keeps the 🌐 key for itself, and gives it back when you quit. If you turned that off, go to Settings, Shortcuts and switch on Keep 🌐 for Voicera, or set “Press 🌐 key to” to “Do Nothing” in System Settings, Keyboard.

The shortcut does nothing

Open Settings, Permissions: Input Monitoring and Accessibility should both read Allowed. Check that Voicera isn’t paused (menu bar icon, or Settings, General, Pause Voicera) and that the shortcut in Settings, Shortcuts is the key you are pressing.

I dictated but no text appeared

Click into a text field first so there is a cursor. Some apps don’t accept typed text; there Voicera pastes the result and restores your clipboard, which needs Clipboard access in Settings, Permissions. The text is also in History, so nothing is lost.

Permissions stopped working after an update

macOS sometimes keeps an old grant that no longer matches. In System Settings, Privacy & Security, remove Voicera from Accessibility and Input Monitoring with the minus button, then open Voicera and allow it again.

How do I get the newest version?

Voicera updates itself. Once a day it checks for a new version, downloads it in the background and installs it the next time you quit Voicera from the menu bar or restart your Mac. To check right away, choose Check for Updates in the Voicera menu bar menu.

Voicera doesn’t hear me, or uses the wrong microphone

Open Settings, Audio, pick your microphone, and press Test: the bars should move when you speak. Also check that Voicera is allowed under Microphone in System Settings, Privacy & Security.

It writes my words in the wrong language

Voicera listens for the languages you choose in Settings, General, Languages you speak, up to four. Pick only the ones you use; fewer is more accurate.

The pill appears where I don’t want it

In Settings, Selection pill, add the app under Never show it in, or turn the pill off. Fn + Shift still opens Quick Actions on a selection.

Voicera says I’ve used this week’s words

Free includes 1,000 words a week and Hobby 5,000. Words start over every Monday at 00:00 UTC. For more, upgrade in Settings, Plan & billing: Pro has no limit.

Plans and billing

  • Change plan, update your card, see invoices or cancel in the app: Settings, Plan & billing, Manage billing.
  • Upgrading to Pro applies right away and credits what you already paid. Moving to Hobby starts at renewal.
  • Cancelling keeps your plan until the end of the period you paid for. See Refunds in the Terms.
  • Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, which appears on your statement and sends your receipts.

Privacy

Voicera never saves recordings. History keeps only what Voicera wrote, for as long as you choose in Settings, History & privacy. The details are in the Privacy Policy.
